Navratri 9 Day Diet Plan for Weight Loss: A Day by Day Vrat Chart (2026)

Navratri 2026 runs from Sunday 11 October to Monday 19 October, with Dussehra on 20 October. Nine days of fasting can help your weight or quietly undo it. Most of the difference comes from what fills the plate, not from fasting itself.
This plan uses normal vrat foods from a normal Indian kitchen. No special products, no crash dieting. If your family follows different vrat rules, swap in what you eat and keep the pattern.
Five rules that do most of the work
- Protein and curd in every meal. Curd, paneer, milk, makhana and peanuts keep you full. Samak, kuttu and sabudana on their own do not.
- Eat every 3 to 4 hours. Long gaps lead to a big, oily dinner. Small meals work better.
- Fry less, roast more. Roasted makhana, boiled or roasted potato, sabzi in one spoon of ghee. One fried item a day is enough.
- Watch the sweet things. Halwa, kheer and sweet chai add up fast. Keep a small portion after a meal, not on an empty stomach.
- Drink water. Plain water, nimbu pani with little sugar, buttermilk or coconut water. Take a 20 to 30 minute walk each day.
As a rough guide, most adults do well on about 1,300 to 1,600 calories a day during this fast, but needs differ with age, height and activity. Do not go below 1,200.

Smart swaps for common vrat foods
- Sabudana vada becomes sabudana khichdi with peanuts and vegetables, one small plate.
- Puri becomes a kuttu or singhare roti cooked with a little ghee.
- Fried aloo tikki becomes roasted or boiled potato with chaat masala and curd.
- Sweet chai becomes tea with less sugar, or buttermilk.
- Halwa after every meal becomes one small portion on special days.
Common questions
Can I lose weight during Navratri? Many people keep their weight steady and some lose a little, by eating protein and curd, avoiding fried foods and staying active. Results differ from person to person and no plan can promise a number.
Is it fine to eat sabudana? Yes, in a small plate with peanuts, vegetables and curd. Sabudana alone is mostly starch and does not keep you full.
Should I skip meals to lose more? No. Skipping meals usually leads to overeating at night. Smaller meals through the day work better.
What if I feel weak or dizzy? Break the fast and eat. This is not a test.
Talk to your doctor if
You have diabetes, thyroid problems, high blood pressure or kidney problems, you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you are under 18 or over 65, or you take regular medicine. Do not change or skip your medicine for a fast, and speak to your doctor before fasting.
