7 Day Weight Loss Diet Chart for Indian Working Women

Most diet charts for women assume you are home all day with time to cook three fresh meals. If you leave at 8 am with a tiffin and get back at 7 pm, that chart falls apart by Wednesday.

This is a 7 day Indian weight loss chart built around a working day. Every lunch travels well, every dinner takes under 25 minutes, and nothing needs special ingredients. It is a general starting point, not a plan made for your body, so read the notes after the table before you begin.

How many calories should a woman eat to lose weight?

There is no single number. Many women lose weight steadily at around 1,300 to 1,600 calories a day, and some need more because of height, activity or a physical job. Going to 1,200 for everyone is a common mistake that leads to tiredness and then to a binge. If you want to see how the numbers work, read our post on the 1200 calorie plan or use the calorie calculator.

The 7 day weight loss diet chart for Indian women

Portions here are for an average woman with a desk job. One roti means a medium 6 inch roti. One katori is about 150 ml. Drink water through the day, around 2 to 2.5 litres, unless your doctor has told you otherwise.

Why this chart works for a busy day

  • Protein at every meal. Dal, curd, paneer, sprouts, eggs or chana keep you full longer, which makes the 4 pm craving smaller.
  • Half the plate is vegetables. Fibre fills the plate for few calories.
  • Two rotis, not four. Carbohydrates are fine, but the portion decides the result.
  • A real evening snack. Skipping it is how a light dinner turns into a heavy one.

Tiffin tips that save your week

  • Cook dal and a dry sabzi on Sunday evening. Both keep well in the fridge for 2 days in a closed box.
  • Pack the roti wrapped in a cloth or foil, and the curd or salad in a separate small box so the roti does not go soft.
  • Keep a small stock at your desk: roasted chana, makhana, a few almonds and a fruit.
  • Soak chana or rajma the night before, and cook it in the morning cooker along with the rice or dal.
  • If the office canteen is your only option, pick dal, sabzi and roti, and leave the fried side and the sweet.

Periods, iron and energy

Many Indian women run low on iron, and a weight loss diet can make it worse if you cut meals. Keep dal, spinach, rajma, chana, and a source of vitamin C such as lemon or amla in your week. Our guide on iron rich foods for Indian women goes into more detail. If you feel tired all the time, dizzy, or your periods have changed, please get your haemoglobin checked by a doctor before you cut calories further.

Common mistakes with a 7 day chart

  • Copying it exactly for months. A week is a pattern. Rotate vegetables and dals so you do not get bored.
  • Skipping breakfast to save calories. It usually shows up as extra snacking at 11 am.
  • Fruit juice instead of fruit. You lose the fibre and drink more sugar than you think.
  • No movement. A 30 minute walk after dinner helps more than most people expect.

Where a chart like this stops

A printed chart cannot know your height, your thyroid, your PCOS, your food dislikes or your family kitchen. If you want a plan built for you, read our post on a diet chart for weight loss for females, or our 7 day vegetarian plan. You can also see how it works on our plans page and meet the nutritionists.

If you have PCOS, thyroid problems, diabetes, high blood pressure, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take regular medicine, please talk to your doctor before changing your diet.

Common questions

How much weight can I lose in 7 days on a diet chart?

Do not expect a big number from one week. A steady pace for most people is about half a kilo a week. A chart like this is a starting pattern, and the real result comes from repeating it for weeks.

Is 1,200 calories right for every woman?

No. Many women do better at around 1,300 to 1,600 calories, depending on height, weight, age and activity. Our post on the 1200 calorie plan explains who it suits.

Can I follow this chart if I eat non vegetarian food?

Yes. Swap the paneer or dal in one or two meals for eggs, fish or chicken curry cooked with less oil. Keep the roti and vegetable portions the same.

What should I eat during my period?

Keep meals regular, add iron rich foods such as dal, spinach, rajma and jaggery in small amounts, and drink enough water. If your cycle is irregular or very heavy, please see a doctor.

Do I need to count calories on this chart?

Not at first. Plate size and portions do most of the work. If you want a number for your own body, try our calorie calculator or ask a nutritionist.
