Andhra Style Moong Dal Dosa
A wholesome Indian recipe crafted for health-conscious eating: nutritious, delicious, and easy to make at home.

Andhra style moong dal dosa is a protein-packed, gluten-free dosa made from whole green gram (moong beans). Unlike traditional rice-based dosa, this version skips rice entirely, making it a smart choice for diabetics and weight watchers. The batter is ground with ginger, green chilli, and cumin, then spread thin on a hot griddle and topped with crunchy onions and fresh coriander. Serve it hot with coconut chutney or a simple tomato chutney for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients
How to Make It
Rinse the whole moong beans thoroughly under running water. Soak them in enough water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Drain the soaked beans and transfer to a blender. Add ginger, green chillies, cumin seeds, asafoetida, coriander leaves, and salt.
Add about 1/2 cup of water and grind to a smooth, pourable batter. The consistency should be similar to regular dosa batter. Add more water if needed, a tablespoon at a time.
Heat a non-stick tawa or cast-iron griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease it with a few drops of oil and wipe with a tissue.
Pour a ladleful of batter onto the hot tawa and spread it into a thin circle using the back of the ladle, moving in a spiral from center to edges.
Drizzle a few drops of oil around the edges and on top. Sprinkle some chopped onion, green chilli, and coriander leaves over the dosa.
Press the toppings gently with a spatula so they stick to the batter. Cook until the bottom turns golden and crisp, about 2-3 minutes.
Flip the dosa and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes until crisp and browned. Remove and keep warm.
Repeat with the remaining batter. Serve hot with coconut chutney or tomato chutney.
